Goal for the New Year | Tech 4 Educators
Goals for the New Year!
Technology is so important in today’s classrooms, but because there is such a wide range of experience among our student population it can seem very difficult for teachers to use the technology daily. I think that technology can be much more of a help than a burden if we focus on starting small and building to the “harder stuff”. Every teacher is at a different level of expertise with their own personal use of technology and we cannot expect every teacher to learn the same way, as we do not expect our students to do.
I spent a great deal of time over the summer reading and researching how a Communication Arts Specialist or Instructional Technology Specialist at the elementary level provides adequate support to a varied population of students and teachers. I came across several articles and I adjusted the suggestions to fit into our school’s technology culture. I hope this sheds some light on what I would like to try and accomplish this year. I will do my best to strive to support you this year anyway I can!
I want to be a collaborator:
Collaboration should be at the heart of teaching. I want to work with my fellow teachers to plan great technology based lessons to increase student fluency.
I want to help you find resources:
When you come to me with a question about how to do things or find something, I will do everything in my power to find you resources or an answer. I would like to continue to build on my website resources to support student learning and provide a “one stop shop” to support your inquiries.
I want to be a “guinea pig”:
When you want to do something with technology, but are hesitant or need help, I want to try out a few different tools or apps and report back to you on which ones I think will best suit your needs. This does take time, so please be patient with me. Sometimes you just need a guinea pig and I will take on that role to help you find creative solutions to solve your problems!
I want to be a learner:
I LOVE to learn. Technology is ever-changing! I love this quote I found from Maggie Hos-McGrane: “Even if you are on the right road, if you sit down in the middle of it you will get run over.” This is so true! Even when I think I have something down, it is updated and I have to learn it all over again. I like to learn new ways that I can support you and get it in your hands. Ever-changing technology means constant learning and I will strive to keep up with new technology changes this year!
I want to provide professional development:
Last year I felt like I sometimes had to fly a bit by the seat of my pants because I had a lot of irons in the fire. I plan to slow things down this year and provide quality and relevant professional development through the district and specifically at our building level. I am hoping to start “Tech Talks” with the building teaching staff that are leveled by knowledge base so that I am providing training to every teacher at their current level of expertise with the technology, in a smaller group setting. I want to inspire you to find different ways that you can make the technology work for YOU to push your personal learning forward. I also hope to provide more one on one coaching directly in the classroom to help you put it into practice. PLEASE let me know how I can help you implement your technology resources.
I want to promote digital citizenship and informational fluency:
I hope to work with our computer teacher, librarian, teachers, and support staff to promote digital citizenship school wide. I want our students to become more digitally literate and responsible to support our digital native student population in future testing requirements and life experiences.
I want to be a communicator:
I plan to talk with you more and email, blog, and post resources and assistance whenever and wherever I can. I want you to share your success stories where technology has enhanced student learning with me so I can in turn share them with others! I plan to write a monthly blog post with important information and resources in one place on my website. I want to build an online learning community within our building. I want us all to learn from each other and from others outside our building and district.
These are my goals for this year to help support student learning and success within our school and I will strive to meet my goals this year!
